Meta names Shengjia Zhao as the main scientist AI Superienligence Unit | Techcrunch

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that OPENI training researcher Shengjia Zhao will conduct a research effort in the new AI unit of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). Zhao has contributed to several large Openai breakthroughs, including Chatgpt, GPT-4 and the first AI model AI, O1.

“I am excited that I can share that Shengjia Zhao will be the main scientist of the Meta Superintelligence Labs,” Zuckerberg said in a contribution to the threads on Friday. “Shengjia has co -founded a new laboratory and has been our main scientist since the first day. Now that our recruitment is well and our team is coming to Togger, we decided to formalize its leadership.”

Zhao sets a research agenda for MSL under the leadership of Alexander Wang, a form of AI scale that has recently been hired to lead a new unit.

Wang, which does not have a research background, was considered a somewhat unconventional choice to lead the AI laboratory. The addition of Zhao, who is a renowned research leader known for the development of Frontier AI models, completes the leadership team.
